someone just put about a dozen logs on the fire out here...it is heating up!!!! we have now reached the mid 30s...and are climbing steadily! the humidity has also kicked in which unfortunately doesn't make the evenings much cooler...but great for a midnight swim down at the pool. the significant change in temperature happened just this week - no easing into it really!! soon the 5 minute walk to the city centre mall will be no more :( even today with an armful of groceries was pushing my perspiration to the limit!! a rule of thumb that i have learned here - never leave home without a bottle of water in your handbag!! 'safety first', right mike? hehe.
to help combat the heat, jen, her 2 boys and i hung out by the pool today. the boys are on a 2 week 'march' break from school and the swimming pool in their compound is not yet completed. thankfully, it is acceptable to wear a western style bathing suit/ bikini down at the pool...i am having a hard enough time adjusting to not being able to wear a tank top in this heat - i have packed up all my 'inappropriate' clothes in a bag until vacation time!!!
another thing that goes hand and hand with this climate is dry hair! ever since we moved here my hair has become ridiculously dry! i have always been one of those girls who unfortunately had to wash her hair every day as my hair easily became greasy not to mention it would be standing on end every morning! here, it is not the case...the girls will appreciate this - i can go 4 days without washing it and it feels as squeaky clean as it did on the first day!!!! great for lazy me who hates doing it but not so good as it just shows how straw-like my poor hair is. joanne says that she has the same problem and her hairdresser back in london had one piece of advice for her...MOVE!!!
lastly, i wanted to share a picture, now that i have one of the most unique and one of my favourite buildings located here in the west bay area of doha.
