road trip

thursday night we were out celebrating the official incorporation of the company mike is working for. we went to habano's cigar lounge at the ritz for a night of celebratory drinks. it was nice to enjoy bottomless glasses of wine - as it has been a while. mike unfortunately had a bit of the 'flu' the next day! hehe.

luckily it didn't stop him from going on a road trip with me on friday!! we drove to al khor which is located 60 km north of doha along the east coast.

we took qatar route 1 all the way there - the scenery is a far cry from the motorways we are used to!

al khor is a small fishing village that is currently under developed but is poised to become qatar 's 2nd largest urban centre.

the population is approx. 30,000 and it is home to a housing complex for 4,000 employees of ras gas and qatar gas and the al khor international school to support the families living within the compound.
outside of the compound seemed to be home for many of the foreign workers that are bused into doha daily for work. we didn't see any arabs and only saw 3 women during our drive through the city centre.

(picture of doha coming in from the north)

tonight we fly out to meet my family in faro, portugal!! looking forward to seeing them and spending 7 uninterrupted days with them!! so...that means that you won't hear from me for a week! will take lots of pictures and post them when we return! have a great week, we will!!!
