another weekend in the desert...

we had a great weekend - one that was productive, relaxing and sociable... perfect combination!!!

mike was in need of some major r&r due to a ridiculously busy and stressful time at work so on friday off to the four seasons we went! our application for membership is still on the waiting list but in the meantime, joanne (who is a member) signs us in as guests for 150 QR (~22 GBP) a day each. this fee allows you to use the spa facilities as well as the outdoor pool and beach areas. an afternoon there makes you feel refreshed and ready to take on the world once again!!! summer is here which brings high 30 temperatures which in turn brings small jellyfish to the sea. although they are tiny and the their sting is said to be minor (a really bad mosquito bit), you must be careful when swimming in the gulf. we didn't want to take any chances and stuck to the pool and its soup - like temperature!!

we are on the hunt for a vehicle as mike is required to give back his temporary ford explorer we have been driving since we arrived here. because there are so many expatriates coming and going in doha, the used car market is extensive - it is just difficult to access them...no auto trader here!! although a brand new car is always nice, mike and i are keeping a look out for a used SUV. makes sense especially when we aren't sure how long we are going to be here for. we were fortunate to test drive a couple on the weekend. of course, i fell in love with the less 'practical' one of the two so we are still in discussions. :)

saturday we had jen, ryan and their two boys over for a swim and dinner. for those of you who don't know me well, i am not the most domesticated woman out there simply due to the busy lifestyle mike and i have lived in the past. i do enjoying cooking however, with not much experience under my belt the thought of a 'dinner party' scares the living @#&! out of me!! so...since i am not working, i have been experimenting and trying out new dishes to broaden my limited cooking knowledge. so far so good, i think!!! i do however, have a tendency to 'overcook' because of fear of under cooking, if that makes sense!?! anyways, i decided to make stuffed jumbo pasta shells for the main course - kid friendly and quite appetizing even for the adults. i thought they turned out pretty tasty until daniel who is 4 years old says before spitting out his food, "daddy, this black pasta piece is really hard"...that was just before he later excuse himself from the table to go to the washroom because he thought he was going to be *SICK*!!! don't worry, false alarm!! hehehe. ahhhhhh, at least we could all laugh about including myself!!! next up is mike's birthday where i am having 11 people over for dinner and games. i think it is going to be a pizza delivery night!!!! :)
