the sat. before the big race day in paris, we made our way to the marathon expo in order for mike and marlon to pick up their bids and run kits.
thankfully, it was a quick and painless metro ride away from where we were staying. 
our goal that day was for mike and marlon to stay off their feet as much as possible. in the end, this proved to be difficult - we were in paris after all!! fortunately, the four of us have already been to paris a few times before therefore, we didn't feel the need to do the big sites again. you can imagine, a marathon and sightseeing is not the best of combinations!

since we were already about 3/4 of the way there, we decided to keep going to the paris suburb of versailles to tour the palace - a historical landmark i have only studied in textbooks but have always wanted to see!! 
the palace started out as a modest hunting lodge for louis xiii, king of france back in 1624 which was later turned it into the great chateau and royal residence we know today by louis xiv. it was at the palace that the treaty of versailles was signed to end ww1.
conscience of the time, we chose only to stroll the massive grounds although in hindsight it would have been nice to tour inside to get out of the near freezing weather conditions!!! the gardens themselves were so impressive - my pictures do not do it justice!
i can only imagine how stunning it would be there in the summer - a place i would love to re-visit and recommend to fellow travellers! you could lose yourself in the gardens...
once we returned to the hotel, the guys decided that a siesta was in order before heading out for their pre-run pasta dinner!!! we found a great little italian restaurant called il naturale right on the champs d'elysee where ate twice over the course of the weekend...lol, italian in paris, go figure!
on the contrary, marlon was adamant that he have french onion soup every day...AND, we were insistent that ALL of our desserts were to be french...we made good friends with a creperie owner... :)

I'm pretty sure they give French Onion Soup and Nutella Crepes to champion racehorses after a big race.
