bbq - gourmet style

we had a fantastic weekend of keeping busy and trying new things here in doha. the most eventful was a gourmet cooking class held on saturday at the ritz-carlton hotel. we arrived not really knowing what to expect since we are in the middle east where bbq-ing is not so popular...AND after all as canadians we are renowned for our bbq-ing skills (well, at least mike is)!! nonetheless, it turned out to be a great success...
the class of six was taught by the executive chef of the hotel who just so happened to be american and gave us some great bbq pointers. it was a hands-on demonstration where we prepared numerous dishes and marinades at cooking stations. the bbqs were just outside on the terrace which made it convenient and allowed us to participate in the total bbq experience.
one of mike and i's favourite salad that we prepared was a shrimp and potato salad. so easy and so delicious...bake new potatoes and baby shrimp on the bbq then mix together with pesto (already prepared - out of the jar) and a bit of mayo. add a touch of chopped tomatoes for colour. finito!!!
we bbq-ed up a storm then feasted on it afterwards! we left five hours later with some great ideas AND very full tummies!!! now all we need is a bbq, hehe...
