the city with the pearl island

a new multi billion real estate development is underway in doha called 'the pearl - qatar'. the pearl is a 985 acre, man-made island that will be home to 41,000 residents when its final phase of four is completed in 2011. the development is being built on a reclaimed pearl diving reef and its typography is to resemble a string of pearls - a theme that pays homage to qatar's previous key economic driver - pearl fishing.the pearl will be its own secured environment linked to the mainland by a palm tree lined causeway. the island will consist of private beachfront villas, luxury apartments/ town homes, exclusive penthouses, 3x 5 star hotels, 3x marinas, 2 million sq. ft. of retail/ leisure/ restaurant space, primary/ secondary schools, day care centres, parks and open public spaces...phew!! a complete community all on its own.
once completed, it will be the first international real estate venture which is open to local investors as well as those overseas. it is also the first project that offers freehold residential rights to the international community = mike and i!! :) some food for thought...

cool! are you seriously thinking of investing in a spot?
diving there would be cool, assuming there are no sharks!
