unlike our years in london where we celebrated with fellow canadians either with a bbq, a pint at the maple leaf pub or partying at the organized events in trafalgar square, i reckon this year's canada celebration is going to be a bit, uh... different. compared with the 15,000 (approx.) of canadians residing in the greater london area, only 1,500 (approx.) of canadians live in doha. i think the closest we are going to come to a party is a drink tonight in a canadian hotel, the four seasons :)
i did however, put my martha stewart in-training skills to work and baked cupcakes (decorated with white icing and red mini m&m's) for the occasion - i am my mother's daughter!! :) i sent mike to work this morning with about 20 of them for his team. mid-morning i received a call from him telling me how much everyone LOVED them and that they are asking for the recipe! umm, in this case do you tell them it is an old, 'top secret' family recipe OR that in actuality (aside from the icing) they were made from a box???? thank you duncan hines :)
BUT the best canada day celebrations we have had were up at the cottage, hands down! these celebrations consisted of a red and white party complete with games, canada trivia and of course a birthday cake - where canada's wind would blow out the candles...yep, you heard right - canada's wind...

this was the first year i actually remembered Canada day (the festivities). usually start the celebration at 11am at the cottage and by dinner time...well you know.
it was always my excuse for not playing games. :)
